Fr Antonio Spadaro, SJ to Open SIGNIS World Congress 2014

Brussels, October 15, 2013 (SIGNIS) - Fr Antonio Spadaro, SJ, editor-in -chief of the influential Jesuit magazine La Civiltà Cattolica, will give the opening address of the SIGNIS World Congress 2014 centred on the theme of "Media for a Culture of Peace: Creating Images with the New Generation."

Fr Spadaro, drawing on his own experience as a “cyber” theologian, blogger and cultural critic, will discuss the theological, spiritual and ethical dimensions of the emerging digital culture and the role of the new generation. He is the author of Cyberteologia. Pensare il cristianesimo al tempo della rete (Cybertheology: Thinking about Christianity in the Era of the Web) 2012. He also edits his own influential blog, Cyberteologia.

Father Spadaro recently made headlines around the world with his revealing interview with Pope Francis. He is a consultor to the Pontifical Council for Social Communication and the Pontifical Council for Culture. A literary critic and cultural commentator, he has written a number of books on the emerging digital culture. Ordained in 1996 in Catania, he completed his education in the United States. He graduated in Philosophy at the University of Messina, and completed his doctorate in theology at the Gregorian University in Rome, where he is a visiting Professor.

The SIGNIS World Congress 2014 will take place 25 February to 1 March 2014 at the Domus Pacis Terra Rossa Park Hotel in Rome.
