SIGNIS Sri Lanka film appreciation seminar

Colombo, Brussels, January 22nd, 2016 (SIGNIS Sri Lanka/SIGNIS). The first film appreciation seminar of the year 2016 organized by SIGNIS Sri Lanka was held on the 14 of January at the Tharangani Theater of the State Film Corporation, Colombo 07.

The film, Ho Gana Pokuna (The Singing Pond) was screened and discussed. Ho Gana Pokuna was released in December 2015 and is still shown in the theaters in Sri Lanka. Ho Gana Pokuna (The Singing Pond) is a children’s movie directed by Indika Ferdinando. It won the Teacher’s Choice Prize in the 32nd Chicago International Children’s Film Festival and premiered at the Hanoi International Film Festival and Shanghai International Film Festival, and the City of Zlin Award at the 55th Zlín Film Festival in Czech Republic.

Prof. Praneeth Abeysundara from the Jayawardanapura University spoke on the theme “Humanness, love and struggle”, Dr. Gamini Weragama, a well known film critic and an author of number of books on cinema on “The importance of children’s films” and Mr. Nuwan Nayanjith, a young film critic and a journalist on the film itself.

There were 450 participants, including around 340 students from 14 schools, children and the artists who acted in the film, producers, the music director, number of other senior artists and film critics.

Number of senior artists and students expressed their views on the film during the open discussion.
