Ecumenical Prize Goes to "Brothers" in Leipzig 2015

Tuesday 3 November 2015, by SIGNIS

Leipzig, November 3rd, 2015 (SIGNIS/Interfilm) “Bracia” (Brothers) by Polish director Wojciech Staron is the winner of the Ecumenical Jury Prize at the 58th International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film DOK Leipzig.

"After 80 years in exile the two brothers Mieczyslaw and Alfons come back to their home in Poland. A new start? A resumé? Alfons is painting and gets international recognition as an artist, his brother Mieczyslaw is tired. Scenes of great closeness and sometimes funny arguments convey the strong connection between the brothers. The movies which the brothers shot by themselves through their whole live unfold an enormous artistic energy. Wojciech Staron, both cinematographer and director, composes from this material, modestly symbolic shots of his own and a unique soundtrack a convincing reflection about the profound question after the meaning of our life."

For this year, as a signal against xenophobia and intolerance, the Ecumenical Jury has been enlarged by a Jewish and Muslim member.

Members of the Jury: Roza Berger-Fiedler (Germany), Lucia Cuocci (Italy), Jakob Hoffman (Germany - President), Houda Ibrahim (France), Blandine Salles (France), Christof Wolf SJ (Germany)
