Fribourg Ecumenical Award 2016 Goes to "Alias Maria"

Fribourg, March 21st, 2016 (SIGNIS/Interfilm) - The Ecumenical Jury Prize at the 30th Fribourg Film Festival was given to the film Alias Maria by José Luis Rugeles (Colombia/Argentina/France 2015, 92’)

"On a very well documented basis, the director confronts us in a breathtaking movie with the tragic destiny of the children who are forcibly enrolled in the Columbian guerilla. During a mission to shelter a new born child, the young girl Maria decides to ensure a future to the child growing in her womb. Disobeying the war mechanics, she advocates life, solidarity, compassion."

This award consisting of CHF 5’000 is conferred jointly by two institutions of the churches working in development cooperation, Fastenopfer and Bread for All, to the director whose film best reflects generally ethical and spiritual questions, especially questions of the meaning of life in the situation of men and women in Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America, and stands for Human Dignity and Rights, Solidarity and lasting Development.

The Ecumenical Jury of the 30th Fribourg International Film Festival consisting of :
