Wednesday 28 September 2016, by SIGNIS

San Sebastián, September, 28th, 2016 (SIGNIS). At the 64th edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival, the SIGNIS prize was given to the drama Nocturama .

This drama about youth dissatisfaction in a world in crisis is co-produced by France, Germany, and Belgium, and directed by French filmmaker Bertrand Bonello. Nocturama is "a cry for help that shows the orphaning group of young people whose actions demonstrate the crisis of values in the West and the lack of proposals to resolve it. The characters justify violence against a consumer society to which unconsciously they halt" said the SIGNIS Jury in their award citation.

At the same time, the film A Monster Calls has received the special commendation of the jury.

The Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona tells the story of a "child facing a painful and imminent outcome in its family life and settles on a stormy dialogue with a monstrous tree."

For the SIGNIS Jury, A Monster Calls is a "beautiful tribute to the strength of the story and its ability to illuminate the profound truths of life, showing ways towards overcoming natural obstacles."
