Conference on “Youth and Social Media: Fight against Violence and Extremism”

Beirut, June, 13th, 2016 (UNESCO). In September, an international conference on the theme “Youth and social media: fight against violence and extremism” will take place in the UNESCO office in Beirut.

The conference is organised in the framework of the intergovernmental Information for All Programme (IFAP), and aims to share experiences on concrete actions, projects and processes to limit the use of the Internet as a tool to incite violence and extremism among young people.

It is also planned to implement this knowledge through projects to linking policy, practice and research in this area.

The Conference will bring together researchers, policy makers, youth NGOs, experts and practitioners from a wide range of institutions and disciplines in this area, and aims to share experiences and success stories and to highlight needs and gaps. It also aims to raise awareness of the reality and potential risks in the event of persistence of relevant and holistic problem.
