Islamic State hacked website of a Syriac Catholic Church in Australia

Syndey, Brussels, December 14th, 2015 (SIGNIS/Daily Telegraph). A Sydney church website was hijacked with the message: “Hacked by Islamic State.”

A graphic video, headline and message replaced the homepage of the Our Lady of Mercy website.

“We don’t negotiate except with cannon, we don’t have dialogues¬ except with guns,” the message read. A gruesome video accompanied the message, showing graphic footage of victims being shot in the head, beheaded and even burned alive.

A church member said ASIO had been contacted over the hacking. However, an ASIO spokeswoman declined to comment on the matter.

Parish priest Rahal Dergham said the distressing hack angered the church community, the majority of whom are Syrian and Iraqi refugees.

“The parishioners have been victims of ISIS,” Father Dergham said. “Everyone’s family is affected, everyone has lost someone that has been killed or kidnapped or raped or tortured by those people.”
