Friday 12 August 2016, by SIGNIS

Brussels, August 12th, 2016 (Fabrizio Colombo). In the beginning of August 2016, SIGNIS Asia organized a 5-day Community Radio Workshop with its Asian members at the Wisma Studio Audio Visual Puskat, Sinduharjo, Yogyakarta in Indonesia.

The program was coordinated by Ms Bernadeta Widiandayani, president of SIGNIS Asia and Chair of SIGNIS’ Radio desk. There were about 20 participants representing more than 10 Asian countries.

Topics discussed during the workshop included sharing on radio program successes and challenges; web radio and digital environment (podcasting); radio production promoting life values; and designing a strategy and sustainability of radio program.

Workshop resource persons included Director of SIGNIS Services Rome and SIGNIS Radio Desk Secretary, Fr. Fabrizio Colombo; SIGNIS Radio Desk Chair and SIGNIS Asia Secretary Ms Bernadetta Widiandajani; SIGNIS Asia Radio Desk member from South Korea and SIGNIS Asia Teasurer, Mr Francis Kim; Director Radio Suara Surabaya – Indonesia, Mr Errol Jonathans; Director SAV Puskat – Indonesia Fr. Iswarahadi, and Station Manager Radio Sonora – Indonesia Mr Benni Listiyo.

The challenge faced by the participants was clearly underlined by the facilitators: radio is today facing changes and new ways of communicating in the digital environment. Social networking is the heart of communication nowadays, and radio becomes more and more a multimedia experience. Video is part for the branding and visibility of radio and the experiences of radio on TV are multiplying.

Finally, the workshop challenged the participants to elaborate strategies to economically support their radios avoiding the fear of being more business minded and developing crowd funding projects.

In conclusion, the workshop helped everyone to be more connected and in network with one another empowering each other and pushing further the passion for Radio who’s still the first media in the world capable of changing lives and built this world on peace through stories of hope.
