BBC documentary on Sister Rita’s work with the poor

Tuesday 8 December 2015, by SIGNIS

London, Brussels, December 8th, 2015 (SIGNIS/ICN/BBC). A new BBC TV documentary series which started yesterday evening (Monday 7 December 2015) follows the life of Sr Rita, who runs the Lalley Community Centre in Collyhurst, a deprived area in Manchester.

The project sponsored by Caritas and staffed by volunteers and paid workers, offers a drop-in centre with a food bank, welfare rights services, counseling and employment support.

In the first episode, Sister Rita has to act fast when it seems not everyone coming to her food bank genuinely needs its help. As her team offer assistance to those who need support and advice but aren’t sure where or how to get it, some of the solutions offer life-changing results.
