"An Auschwitz Retreat": Praying in the sites of the Holocaust

Munich, January 11, 2007 (Loyola Productions) - Loyola Productions Munich GmbH and Renovabis, recently completed filming the documentary An Auschwitz Retreat: Spirituality Beyond Religion. Filmed on the grounds of Auschwitz, Birkenau, and in Krakow, Poland, over a period of 7 days, it is the story of 6 retreatants and their life-changing experience of the retreat.

(JPEG) Every November since 1995, an interfaith retreat is held at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camps, in Poland. The sites of the Holocaust become a place of prayer, introspection and meditation. American Zen Buddhist Bernie Glassman began these retreats after his own visit to Auschwitz and his sense that the place needed to be experienced in a deeper way and could become a place for people to actually bear witness to what happened there. Each year they retreat brings together people from all over the world to pray and to mediate together.

In November of 2006, Jesuit filmmakers Christof Wolf, S.J. and Ron Schmidt, S.J., together with Director of Photography Zoltan Honti, immersed themselves in the retreat and in film making to bring the story to a reality. The release date for the film is November 23, 2007.

Loyola Productions Munich GmbH works in cooperation with Loyola Productions Inc., in Los Angeles, California. The company, founded by Fr. Wolf, stands in the long tradition of Jesuit work and enterprises in the field of education and media. Loyola Productions specializes in making excellent, thought provoking documentaries.
