New SIGNIS Media (3/2007): Voice of the Voiceless, Face of the Faceless
Brussels, October 3, 2007 (SIGNIS) - The new issue of SIGNIS Media searches for ways for alternative and outside voices and faces to be heard and seen.
Across the world violence, censorship and ownership of the media by a few big companies threaten the plurality of free expression. But even when freedom of expression is not so obviously under threat - some voices and some faces are often missing from or underrepresented in the media. These are the faces and voices of the less powerful, children, women, the poor, immigrants, refugees, religious, racial and social minorities, indigenous peoples, the peoples of the global South, and all who are deemed ‘outsiders’.
Also in this issue: Cannes, Zlin, Locarno and Brisbane film festivals, Internet in Africa, Media Education in Lebanon, etc.
