“Value of Radio” Workshop in Lahore, Pakistan
Lahore, May 26, 2011 (Rabita Manzil/ Basharat Siraj ) - On 16th May 2011, Rev. Fr. Nadeem John Shakir (Director, Rabita Manzil, Lahore) conducted a seminar for 17 seminarians of St. Francis Xavier Major Seminary, Lahore on the topic “Value of Radio”.
Fr. Shakir highlighted the importance of radio saying “Radio is a source of information, news, formation, entertainment, guidance and education. Radio has played a vital role in the history of Pakistan.”
“There are still a large number of areas where people don’t have access to the modern media,” he added. “The only source of entertainment, formation, education and information for the residents of those areas is radio. Even there are many areas in the cities where the facility of television or cable is not available and the people of those areas are also getting everything from radio (FM, MW, SW). This is still the most powerful and effective mean of communication.”
After having given some basic information about the value of radio, Fr. Nadeem John Shakir also taught the participants about writing a script for a radio programme. “Writing is an art. Every radio programme needs a script in one way or the other. We need expert script writers because this is very important for every valuable programme.”
The participants then were divided in small groups of three/four each and were given assignments to choose different topics and write a short script of three minutes. Towards the end of the seminar, the speaker also gave some time to the participants to ask questions or get clarifications about the topic. The seminarians were very happy to take part in the said seminar and were grateful to Fr. Nadeem John Shakir for his valuable insights and practical guidance.
