Africa’s Catholic Journalists Set to Meet in Kenya
Mombasa, April 17, 2012 (CISA) -Catholic journalists and Media practitioners from across Africa are expected to congregate in Mombasa for a four-day workshop, from July 22 to 26 this year, under the auspices of Union of Catholic Journalists in Africa (UCAP). The theme of the workshop is: "The Role of the Media in Peace Building, Conflict Resolution and Good Governance in Africa".
Sub-themes include: Role of Catholic Media as a vehicle for civic education, Media as the agenda setter for elections and the development of the society, Challenges and the paradigm shift in communication ethics, Role of new media on justice and peace initiative in Africa, Taking up the digital challenges in the press and in the Christian Media.
The workshop will take place at Jumuia Conference Centre and Beach Resort in Kanamai, few kilometers north of Kenyan Coastal city of Mombasa and is expected to be attended by key officials from the Pontifical Council for Social Communications and Pontifical Council for the Laity in the Vatican, Rome.
Catholic Journalists in the continent will use this occasion to brainstorm on the way forward following the recent sanctioning by the Vatican of the Union of Catholic International Press (UCIP) which has been the Catholic world press body, since 1927.
Delegates are expected from Senegal, Togo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Benin, Cameroon, Ghana, Chad, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Mauritius, and Madagascar among others.
