Federico Lombardi is the new Head of the Vatican Press Office

Vatican City, July 12 2006 (Signis) - Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi as the new head of the Vatican press office. He will replace Joaquín Navarro Valls, who resigned after 22 years of service.

Federico Lombardi is the current director of Vatican Radio and the Vatican Television Centre. He will continue to direct those organizations.

Father Lombardi has been an active member of SIGNIS for a long time. As representative of Vatican Radio, he took part in the SIGNIS radio workshops in Cape Town (2003) and Lyon (2005), among others.
