Angelus Student Film Festival 2006 Announces Winners

Hollywood, October 21, 2006 (Family Theatre Productions) - The Angelus Student Film Festival, now in its eleventh year, has announced the 2006 winners of the competition, during an award ceremony held on October 21 at the Directors Guild of America (DGA) in Hollywood.

The Trojan Cow (JPEG) The top prize, the Patrick Peyton Award for Excellence in Filmmaking, was presented to Barbara Stepansky of American Film Institute, for her film The Trojan Cow . Stepansky, an Angelus finalist in 2000, received a $10,000 cash prize, believed to be one of the highest among student film festivals. It is sponsored by Family Theater Productions.

Created by Family Theater Productions, a Hollywood-based Catholic media outlet, the Angelus Film Festival honours and showcases future filmmakers as they explore and create works that respect the dignity of the human person.

This year seven other filmmakers were selected as winners from over 500 submissions, representing a record 28 countries, including the U.S. and such diverse nations as Turkey, Lithuania and Iran. Festival juries, comprised of industry professionals, including producer Paul A. Rosenberg ( Go ) and producer Doug Urbanski ( The Contender ), convened in September to select the winners from the finalists. Here is the complete list of winners:
