SIGNIS celebrates 90 years of collaboration between Catholic communicators in Leuven
Ljubljana, October, 17th 2017 (SIGNIS Europe). The new SIGNIS Europe delegates, elected in April 2017 in Malta, met in Ljubljana, Slovenia, at the invitation of Sister Romana Kocjančič. Hosted at the Jesuit House, the delegates were invited by Monsignor Juliusz Janusz, Apostolic Nuncio, for a Mass followed by a convivial meeting. The new president, Akos Lazar Kovacs, met with representatives of the Church of Slovenia.
Participants reviewed the association's recent major events, such as the Quebec World Congress and the SIGNIS-WACC television festival in Paris. This European television festival of religious programmes is a unique opportunity to present and reward the best European television programmes that translate and explore values related to religion, faith and ethics in today's society.
They also analysed the next challenges facing SIGNIS Europe: how to choose (and train) jurors for film festivals, how to better organize meetings between European journalists and, of course, how to finance the various projects.
Several projects of the year 2018 were also mentioned: SIGNIS Europe and the Cinema Desk will organize an international cinema symposium on "cinema and spirituality". The aim is to bring together all those who work in the field of cinema and spirituality and to promote the mission of SIGNIS.
In addition, the Federation of French Catholic Media (new member of SIGNIS since the congress) and the Vatican Communication Secretariat will organize an international meeting for journalists in Lourdes (France) in January 2018.
