Kenyan Catholic nun nominated on International Communication Association

Nairobi, June, 17th, 2016 (Canaafrica). A Kenyan Catholic nun, Sr. Agnes Lucy Lando, lecturing at a Nairobi-based University has been nominated to the position of member-at-large for the International Communication Association (ICA) following her active role in internationalizing ICA.

She is currently an Associate Professor of Communication and Media Studies and Assistant Head of Communication Department of Daystar University. The nomination occurred during the just concluded ICA’s 66th annual conference, whose theme was “Communicating with Power.”

If the nomination goes through, Sr. Lando will not only be the first African to sit on the ICA board, but also the first to serve and represent the African region in ICA.
ICA is an academic association for scholars interested in the study, teaching and application of all aspects of human and mediated communication. It has more than 4,300 members in over 80 countries.

According to Daystar Infospot 19, 2016, “the outgoing ICA President, Prof. Amy Jordan said that Sr. Prof. Lando was nominated to the member-at-large position on the ICA Board of Directors because of her active role in internationalizing ICA.”

Sr. Lando who was also appointed as the international liaison for ICA’s Children, Adolescents and Media division is set to convene the first ever ICA regional conference in Africa since its inception, to be held at Daystar University, from 19th to 21st October 2016. The theme of the Conference is “Growing Communication Scholarship in Africa: Looking to the Past with Gratitude, the Present with Passion and the Future with Hope.”
