Buenos Aires, April 3rd, 2009 (SIGNIS) - At the 11th Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema (BAFICI), the SIGNIS Jury awarded its Prize to the South Korean film Breathless by Yank Ik-june.

The SIGNIS Jury awarded the film "for showing that despite the fact of living in a violent society, there is always a way out to reconcile with life. And for telling this story with remarkable filmmaking skills and with shocking performances."

"In this film -said the Jury-, Sang-hoon -played by Yank Ik-june-, a violent man that humiliates and abuses everybody that crosses his path, finds in forgiveness a way to heal his deepest wounds. The former gangster in his last moments rescues his love-ones allowing them to re-start in unity a new story."

The SIGNIS Jury was composed by: Ricardo Yáñez (USA/Argentina, President), Amilcar D'Onofrio (Argentina, Secretary) and Mario Tapia (Ecuador).

Breathless also won the Audience Award for the best picture of the international section.

The 11th edition of BAFICI featured 417 feature and short films, screened in 20 theatre for an audience that grew by 20% compared to last year.
