Brussels, Belgium (April 19, 2019) Greta Thunberg is a 16 year-old Swedish girl who in August 2018 staged a one-person school strike over climate change inaction by the government. Her action inspired the global school strike for climate movement.  Her unyielding conviction that the time for immediate action to save the environment is now has inspired student action everywhere.

Greta attributes her idea of a school climate strike came from the Parkland, Florida students March for Our Lives after the school shooting in that US city.  She has noted that she has been diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, OCD and Selective Mutism.

"I think in many ways we autistic are the normal ones and the rest of the people are pretty strange—especially when it comes to the sustainability crisis." — Greta Thunberg

“I am here to say, our house is on fire….You are not mature enough to tell it like is. Even that burden you leave to us children. But I don’t care about being popular. I care about climate justice and the living planet. Our civilization is being sacrificed for the opportunity of a very small number of people to continue making enormous amounts of money.” — Greta Thunberg, World Economic Forum, 2019
